DIRECT and INDIRECT
BENEFITS of ADSA
DIRECT BENEFITS
$5,000
In-The-Line-Of-Duty Death Benefit
- Members are automatically covered under this self-managed benefit
program. In the event that any active member who is a full time
county employee is killed in the line of duty, the beneficiary indicated
on his membership form is given financial assistance of $5,000.
Death Benefit - If an active member dies in a non-job-related
incident the association makes a financial donation to his/her family
or children's trust fund, or charity.
Non-Member Death Benefit - Occasionally a sheriff
member will request a donation from the association when a non-member
is killed in the line of duty. ADSA recognizes the tragedy in losing
even one of our valuable county law enforcement personnel and honors
these requests whenever possible.
Body Armor - This has been identified as a major
area of concern with the majority of our members. County law enforcement
departments are historically under funded and therefore often lack
the abilty to provide their officers with this life-saving equipment.
The ADSA has made it a mission to find excellent pricing alternatives
and provide as much assistance in financing as our budget allows.
Equipment - Each department has different needs.
The ADSA works with member requests for everything from radar equipment
to camcorders. Requests are granted based on need and circumstances.
Training - The ADSA utilizes the USLETA program,
which is a mobile training unit that removes the expense of traveling
from a department's training budget. Funding is provided for research,
development and staff maintenance. The program is currently CE certified
in Texas and is soon to be certified across the country. The association
sponsored training in its entirety for three departments last year
who would have not been able to afford any training at all.
Community Assistance - Sheriff's of member departments
submit requests on behalf of their community for assistance. Based
on location and need, requests are reviewed and granted for local
situations such as home fires, natural disasters, plant layoffs,
etc. 800.937.7940
Academic Scholarship Program - College
bound dependents of ADSA members are invited to apply for our scholarship
program. The Advisory board reviews all requests and scholarships
are granted twice each year; once for Fall semester or quarter and
once for Spring semester or quarter. Applications and guidelines
are provided by membership services.
National Credit Union - The members of ADSA have
access to a credit union which can satisfy a variety of banking
needs; savings accounts, checking accounts, car, boat, all types
of loan availability, home mortgages, MasterCard, and much more!
The credit union has international members and provides 24 hour,
toll free access to your personal account information.
Publication - The Informant is a vehicle of communication
for all members. It provides a forum for this often over-looked
level of law enforcement to exchange pertinent information and share
new ideas and techniques. The readership on each issue distributed
is currently 3-4 additional readers, so the information is getting
spread around.
Methods of Contact - Departments and members who have
online access can communicate with the organization through our
presence on the Internet. The ADSA web site gives members access
to valuable information and links to other helpful pages as well
as giving them an additional method of contacted the association
to request benefits and information.
INDIRECT
BENEFITS
Membership Department - This department maintains
a resource file for member access. They can get listings of equipment
providers and resources as well as request information about how to
access everything from plans for firing ranges to availability of
drug interdiction training. The membership department adds another
reference source to the county law enforcement official's arsenal.
If the department doesn't have the answer on-hand, they will find
one.
State Coordinators - Members have access to an increasingly
comprehensive network of State Coordinators who are prepared to assist
them on questions and concerns that they have on the state level.
While these positions are strictly volunteer positions, the administrative
staff supports them by providing press releases, paperwork and resources
and references for requested items and information.
The American Deputy Sheriffs' Association has experienced membership
growth beyond our expectations. Every phone call is responded to personally
and every letter is answered promptly. This is important to our members
and, therefore, important to us. For information on any ADSA Benefits,
